Basalt is used in construction as building blocks, interior and exterior wall, floor, countertops, sinks, monuments, pool coping, sills, paving stone, steping stone, cobble stones and in making statues. Heating and extruding basalt yields stone wool, which has potential to be an excellent thermal insulator. Intense heat or great pressure transforms basalt into its metamorphic rock equivalents.
